Last updated: June 5, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Karunattu (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Karunattu. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or guardian's permission to use the App.
2. Description of Service
Karunattu is a Carnatic music learning and creation platform. The App provides raga and tala reference, practice tools with live pitch feedback, an 11-instrument synthesizer engine calibrated against historical recordings, a multi-track studio, and a community peer practice feature called Sangam. The service is offered in three tiers: Free (Śiṣya), Plus (Sādhaka), and Pro (Kalākar). Free tier requires no account; Plus and Pro require an Apple ID with an active subscription.
3. Account Terms
- You are responsible for safeguarding the password associated with your Karunattu account and for any activity on your account.
- Provide accurate account information; we are not responsible for communications sent to an email address you no longer control.
- Notify us immediately at legal@karunattu.com if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with notice where reasonably practicable.
4. Subscription Terms
Plus and Pro subscriptions are auto-renewing and processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit 2. The following terms apply:
- Plus Monthly: $4.99 USD per month, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
- Plus Yearly: $39 USD per year (save 35% vs monthly).
- Pro Monthly: $19.99 USD per month.
- Pro Yearly: $199 USD per year (save 17% vs monthly).
- Pro Lifetime: $299 USD one-time payment (no recurring charge).
- Auto-renews until cancelled. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase and at the start of each renewal period.
- Manage / cancel: Open Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iOS device at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle.
- Free trial: A free trial, if available, converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the trial. A user is eligible for a free trial only if they have not previously subscribed to the same tier.
- Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds directly.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App
- Use the App to harass, abuse, or harm another person
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, our servers, or any networks connected to the Service
- Upload malicious code, viruses, or any other harmful technology
- Use the Sangam feature to send audio (only pitch and tāḷa events are exchanged)
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service without our prior written consent
6. Intellectual Property
The App, including all source code, design, raga and tala data, audio synthesizer algorithms, and documentation, is the property of Karunattu and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
Musicological content in the App (raga scales, tala structures, gamaka taxonomies, composer biographies) is derived from public-domain and attributed sources; see the in-app bibliography for citations. Composer and instrument content is editorial; we welcome corrections at legal@karunattu.com.
You retain ownership of practice recordings and compositions you create in the App. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and sync that content to your account as required to provide the Service.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
Karunattu is a learning and practice aid. The musicological content has been reviewed by Carnatic teachers, but no digital resource can replace a qualified guru. We do not warrant that any specific musical claim (raga grammar, gamaka taxonomy, composer attribution) is universally accepted by every tradition.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL KARUNATTU, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM (A) YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE) THE SERVICE; (B) ANY CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF ANY THIRD PARTY ON THE SERVICE; OR (C) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR CONTENT.
In no event will Karunattu's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $100.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Terms on this page, updating the "Last updated" date, and surfacing an in-app notice on next launch. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
