Ornamentation
Alaṅkāra Varisai
Ornamental patterns introducing turns, neighbor-note figures, and cascades. The bridge between fixed varisai and free improvisation.
The traditional 7 alaṅkāras (#1–7) each teach one of the 7 sūḷādi tāḷas — #1 Dhruva, #2 Maṭhya, #3 Rūpaka, #4 Jhampa, #5 Tripuṭa, #6 Aṭa, #7 Ēka. Turn the Tāla overlay on and the metronome keeps each alaṅkāra in its own cycle. Patterns #8–10 are pedagogical extensions beyond that set and keep time in Ādi tāḷa.
